Meghla akash

At that day when we are taking information from people and taking pictures suddenly I looked at the sky and I found that the sky is cloudy.  I found it quite similar with the situation. It means that the future of these area people is same like the sky. Nature itself is giving them signal about their future. People of this area are quite helpless. They are now in this situation because of few rich people who are earning money by destroying the nature. Government is not helping them and rich people as well.

When we are talking with villagers they inform us that some people try to protest through out the industrial waste into the river. At that rally police bit local people and asked them why they are doing it. We all know about it because it was published in newspapers but we could not pay attention that much but that when we are listening to these from villagers then we can feel their pain.

Noyarhat ghat

July 14, 2008

Noyarhat has a dirty ghat. People are use to though out their garbage beside the river. It is causing two things -Polluting the river and Polluting the air of the hat. Smell of the garbage is spread out all over the hat.  People are passing this place or buying and selling things in this environment. Bazaar committee said that had tried to remove these garbage from this place but they failed to do it. This is not only household garbage but industrial garbage’s are also there.

In the picture we can see that beside the garbage 4/5 boats are there. People use to go different places by these boats. Local people have to use the dirty ghat to go different places. We can’t stand their because of bad smell but from child to old people are waiting for boat for several hours in this unhealthy place.

Rice mill

July 14, 2008

Both side of “Bongshi” river has so many things that can pollute water of the river. Suddenly we find out some ashes are falling beside the river. We are asking one another what are those ashes come from…??????? And finally we get our result that those ashes are come from rice mill. We found 5/6 rice mills beside the river. These rice mills are directly thrown out ashes into the river it seems that they don’t know that what those ashes are doing. Most of the houses toilets are made beside the river which is another main reason of polluting river water.

Unemployed fishermen

July 14, 2008

Now “Bongshi” river became poisonous and fish is rare in the river. Once there was a time when most of the villagers’ main occupation was fishing. We speak with some of those villagers who are now unemployed because fish is no longer in the river. Sometimes few fishes are found in the river but those fishes are not eatable because those fishes are also poisonous. People of these areas also use this water to wash cloths and even drinking water. They know it that water has become poisonous but they have no other option. Water becomes so poisonous that if you use this water for washing hands then you will have skin diseases.

Unemployed fishermen are trying to live their live by doing some other activities. Some of these fishermen are cultivating, some are become rickshaw puller and many of them are still unemployed. Especially those people whose ages are above 50.

Dumping oil

July 14, 2008

One of the main reasons of water pollution is dumping oil. Dumping oil is polluting water everyday. People don’t have any idea about this fact. In the picture we can see that boatmen are smiling because they are doing their daily activities but they don’t have the idea how they are polluting this water. Awareness is not the only solution we have to think about the alternative options as well.

I am handling this kind of professional video camera for first time so I was excited. When fisher men are speaking about their present situation then I was paying more attention on their statements because if I am making something wrong then we will not be able to get it again. Our mission is to present the current situation of people of these areas. I realize that day taking something is not so easy. Pictures I have taken or video I have done that I am happy because it has given me the idea of these helpless people. I have seen my own eyes that how miserably they are leading their life.

Rongila Chacha

July 14, 2008

When we are taking interview and picture of old fishermen of the village at that time we found a very colorful Chacha. He was standing behind us and watching our activity. I found him quite interesting because he was talking alone. When every one is anxious about the present condition about river, air pollution and soil erosion we seems to be relaxed. He has no headache about it. It seems that he is happy with his life and don’t care what is happening around him.

He was successful to grave my attention because of his dress also. He was wearing a red Panjabi and blue Lungi. He was also wearing white show with Lungi and Punjabi. Is not it different……..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Person like Rongila Chacha is rear in our country. I wish could be like Rongila Chacha and anxiety, tension and sadness can’t touch me….!!!

Complains of Bojlu Bhai

July 14, 2008

Mr. Bojlu is the Chairman of Nawerhat bazaar somitti. He has so many complain about government and industry owners. Especially industry owners are more liable for river pollution. For their own benefit they are polluting rivers and making the local peoples life miserable. Mr. Bojlu was saying that before 10/15 years the river was in normal condition. When Savar is started as a industrial area then these problem occurred. He was saying that they are not against industrialization but they are against river pollution. He mentioned that if industry owners are aware about it and make recycling system in their plant then they easily can avoid these problems. Government can make policies to establish recycling machine in every industry. Policy making is not the solution of the problem main thing is to implementing those policies.

Soil Stealing

July 14, 2008

From the bank of “Bongshi” river people are collecting soil and selling them to MAHAJONS. Every day it is happening in front of police but it seems that they have nothing to do. Condition of “Bongshi” river is not good it needs dazing but in a planned way. Govt. should take essential steps to keep the river alive. Collecting soil from river without taking permission is illegal but people are doing it regularly. If it is not possible for govt. to control the dazing then they can give it to private organization but in a planned and legal way.  To save the river die from ultimate dazing and poison it is the right time to do something. To save the “Bongshi” river we should take our step forward, it is not only the duty of the citizens of Savar it is also our duty to save “Bongshi” river.

Behind the normal scene

July 3, 2008

The river looks like other normal rivers of Bangladesh, but it is not like other rivers.  This is “Bangshi” river of Savar. This river became poisonous by the industrial wastes, dumping oil and other toxic things. It’s rainy season so the water color is normal but in the dry season water looks dark black because of industrial wastes.
